FAQs
How can upgrading to a smart thermostat help lower my energy bills in Guild?
Smart thermostats use built-in sensors, weather data and machine-learning algorithms to adjust heating and cooling only when it’s truly needed. Studies by the Energy Saving Trust show average savings of 10–15 % on annual energy costs. In Guild’s variable climate, auto-scheduling, geofencing and voice-activated set-backs prevent the boiler or heat-pump from running when the house is empty, while ensuring comfort the moment you return.
Are the thermostats you install compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit?
Yes. We supply models from Nest, Ecobee and Honeywell T-Series that natively integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. For Apple users we offer HomeKit-certified devices such as the Ecobee SmartThermostat and Honeywell T9. Once connected, you can change temperatures, set schedules or query indoor conditions with simple voice commands like “Hey Google, set the living-room to 20 °C.”
What is involved in a typical installation and how long does it take?
A standard replacement in Guild usually takes 60–90 minutes. Our engineer will: 1) power down the HVAC system, 2) label and disconnect the existing thermostat wires, 3) fit a trim plate or make good any wall repairs, 4) mount and wire the new smart thermostat, 5) connect it to Wi-Fi and your voice-assistant platform, 6) run a full operational test. We finish by showing you how to use the app and voice controls. More complex multi-zone or heat-pump systems can take up to half a day.
Do I need special wiring such as a C-wire?
Most modern smart thermostats need continuous 24 V power via a common (C) wire. During our free pre-installation survey we check your existing wiring. If a C-wire is missing we can usually add an adapter or run a new conductor from the furnace control board. In rare cases we recommend a battery-powered or line-voltage smart thermostat instead.
Can a smart thermostat control multiple zones or individual rooms?
Yes. We offer multi-zone solutions using wireless remote sensors or dedicated zone controllers. For example, an Ecobee paired with SmartSensors lets you average or prioritise temperatures in key rooms, while Honeywell’s Evohome can manage up to 12 radiator zones. Zoned control not only boosts comfort but can trim a further 5–10 % off energy use.
What warranty and after-sales support do you provide?
All thermostats come with the manufacturer’s 2- to 5-year warranty. Our installation work is guaranteed for 12 months under GuildSmart’s workmanship warranty. Need help later? Call, email or book a virtual visit—our support team can remotely diagnose most issues, update firmware or re-link your voice assistant at no extra charge during the first year.
