FAQs
What types of thermostat upgrades qualify for local utility rebates in Wartburg?
Wartburg Utility Board (WUB) offers incentives for ENERGY STAR® certified smart or Wi-Fi–enabled programmable thermostats that can automatically adjust your HVAC settings and report usage data. The unit must replace a non-communicating manual or standard programmable thermostat and be listed on the WUB approved-products list at the time of purchase.
How much can I expect to receive in rebates for installing a smart thermostat?
Homeowners and small businesses served by WUB can receive a flat $75 bill-credit rebate per qualifying thermostat, up to two thermostats per electric meter. The rebate is applied directly to the utility account within one to two billing cycles once the application is approved.
Who is eligible for the heating and air conditioning thermostat rebate program?
Eligibility is limited to customers who 1) have an active residential or small-commercial electric account with Wartburg Utility Board, 2) use electric heating and/or cooling as the primary conditioning source, and 3) install the new thermostat in an existing structure located in the WUB service territory. New construction, leased thermostats, and gas-only HVAC systems are not eligible.
Do I need a professional installation to qualify for the rebate?
Professional installation is strongly recommended but not strictly required. If you self-install, you must follow the manufacturer’s wiring instructions and attach clear, date-stamped photos of the installed thermostat and the HVAC air-handler nameplate to your rebate application. Improperly installed units that do not actually control the HVAC system will be disqualified.
How do I apply for the thermostat rebate and what documents are required?
Complete the online or paper WUB Rebate Application within 60 days of purchase. You will need: 1) proof of purchase showing model number and purchase date, 2) photos of the installed thermostat displaying the home screen, 3) a recent WUB electric bill, and 4) contractor invoice if professionally installed. Submit all documents online at wartburgutilities.com/rebates or mail them to WUB Energy Services, P.O. Box 849, Wartburg, TN 37887.
How long does it take to receive my rebate after the application is submitted?
After WUB receives a complete application, processing and verification typically take 2–4 weeks. If approved, the $75 credit appears on your next monthly electric bill. Applications flagged for missing information will be placed on hold; you will have 30 days to supply the required documents before the request is canceled.
